VERTEDANCE – LEARNED HELPLESSNESS (teaser)

A movie adaptation directed by Vojtěch Kopecký and Michal Caban (April 2015)

SITE SPECIFIC PROJECT

In its latest production, VerTeDance abandons its usual home stage at Prague’s Ponec Theatre in order to delve into the underground spaces of the former municipal spa. The project is loosely inspired by Dagmar Šimková’s book We Were There, Too, about her experiences in a communist prison camp in the 1950s. The contradiction between the site’s original purpose and its current state resonates with the fates of people who were tortured and killed for expressing a noble spirit.

VerTeDance has invited an international team of renowned artists to collaborate on this project: movement is being coordinated by Lali Ayguade Farro, a long-term dancer with the famed Akram Khan Company, the music is by Polish composer Rafał Dętkoś, and the performance is directed by Jiří Havelka.

Performers: Veronika Kotlíková, Tereza Ondrová, Martina Hajdyla Lacová, Karolína Hejnová, Robert Nižník, Jaro Ondruš, Petr Opavský, Katarína Ďuricová, Lucia Kašiarová, Jiří Havelka, Lali Ayguade Farro, Rafal Deťkos, Adriana Černá, Tomáš Žižka a studenti
