Hysteric Choir by Vilde Jensen, with Malin Arnedotter, Mia Robsahm, Louise Evensen Herreira, Natalie Seifert Eliassen, Sunniva Eira Sætereng and Lovisa Ljungberg
A talking and moving choir consisting of satyr-like, goat-legged creatures. The choir is reciting a rhythmical text while they move around on stilts. Inspired by the satyr play of ancient Greece, which served as a comic relief after hours of tragedies unfolding on stage, Hysteric Choir seeks to serve as a sorely needed playful relief in times of instability, polarisation and war. While at the same time thematizing how we strive to control our bodies, our behaviour, and humanity’s everlasting search for immortality.
Vilde Jensen (she, b. 1992) based in Oslo. In a society that is increasingly polarised and disembodied, she wants to add things she is missing, needing or craving. She does this by creating contexts where clocks are not present, meeting points, and inviting the possibility that the mysterious and adventurous are hiding in our everyday life. Through performance, textile, text and ceramics, she lets both place and audience shape the outcome of her works.
