When we tell someone to ‘feel the music’, what are we actually asking them to do? Offbeat explores this question as the performers dance in the space between surrendering to music and resisting it.
The dancers move in and out of rhythm, embracing moments of awkwardness, clumsiness, and off-beat timing. From this playful tension, something contagious begins to take shape – a groove that emerges between discomfort and pleasure.
Alongside the ESC dancers, a live percussionist and sound-producing scenography draw the audience into a vibrant choreography where the pulse is impossible to ignore, and the urge to nod or stomp along is irresistible.
ESC ungdomskompani for samtidsdans is a youth company for contemporary dance, run by Bergen Dansesenter. It offers a programme for young people aged 14–19 in Vestland county who show talent and interest in contemporary dance. ESC aims to provide a springboard for aspiring dancers and create professional opportunities for freelance choreographers. BIT has collaborated with ESC on various projects for several years.
