Get to know how a sound system works, routines for setting up sound equipment and good practice for creating sound for live events! An introductory course to start to build expertise and networks in sound engineering.
GRIP is open to anyone over the age of 18, and aims to welcome more women, non-binary and transgender people into sound engineering roles in Bergen’s cultural organizations. No previous experience is required. Register for this workshop through this link.
GRIP is an ongoing series of courses to give more people the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills in sound engineering. Women, non-binary and transgender people are strongly underrepresented in this field – in 2022 it was reported that 93% of all technicians in Norway are cis-male. We want to change this. Between 2021-22, GRIP trained 141 people who wanted to gain more knowledge and confidence in sound technology. Flipping the statistic, 92% of the participants were women, non-binary and transgender people, and many are now working as professional sound technicians.
GRIP is a collaborative project between Bergen Kjøtt, BIT Teatergarasjen, Carte Blanche, AKKS Bergen and sound engineer Irene Bjørke. GRIP is organized with partners in Bergen including Borealis – a festival for experimental music and Wild Wild West and is supported by Sparebanken Vest, Bergen Municipality, Kulturrom, and apap-FEMINIST FUTURES (funded by the Creative Europe program in the EU).
