There is a lot of activity at the construction site in fall 2024. New pieces are falling into place all the time.
On October 16, the foundation stone for Sentralbadet Performing Arts Center will be laid.
Sentralbadet was built in 1960 as Bergen’s first swimming hall. The pool facility was closed in 2014 when ADO Arena opened.
Sentralbadet has always been the city’s building. There is hardly a Bergen resident who hasn’t passed through its doors, whether to learn to swim, to visit the Gingerbread City, or to receive a shot in the shoulder during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, Sentralbadet is well on its way to being transformed into a modern venue for performing arts. It will be a new and long-awaited home for BIT Teatergarasjen and Carte Blanche, who will be the main users of the building. A new arena is being returned to the people of Bergen, for residents, audiences, and the city’s performing arts community.
From 2027, the building will host a full artistic program, with performances already set to begin in 2026.
The ceremony will take place: Time: Wednesday, October 16, from 14:00 to 14:30 Place: Sentralbadet, Teatergaten 37
City Council Leader Christine Meyer and Culture Councilor Reidar Digranes will lay the cornerstone for the new Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus.
