From December 27 until January 9, you can vote for the VSTLND Audience Award, presented in connection with the Pernille Prize. Each theater has nominated one candidate from the 2024 theater season. BIT Teatergarasjen’s nominee is dancer and choreographer Ole Martin Meland.

Ole Martin Meland is a dancer and choreographer based in Bergen. He has been nominated for his own work, JEG BRAKK (I BROKE), but has also performed as a dancer in several other productions this year, including RETRO KATT.

Ole Martin brings a nerve and intensity to his stage presence that resonates with audiences. His works particularly captivate younger viewers and attract new audiences. His choreographic practice spans from projects in the independent field to commissioned works for companies such as Iceland Dance Company, Oslo Dance Ensemble, and Carte Blanche. Meland’s language is expansive and physical, raw and direct. His works explore themes of destruction versus the will to create, seeking spaces where things don’t align, create their own logic, or shift our perspective on the world around us.

Ole Martin graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and has been a permanent dancer with Carte Blanche, Norway’s national company for contemporary dance, since 2006.

The performance JEG BRAKK premiered in Bergen on November 23, 2024. Read more here.
