A proud and joyful gathering, dressed up in traditional bunads and protective gear.
On October 16, 2024, the foundation stone for the Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus was laid.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the City of Bergen, local politicians, and BIT and Carte Blanche as the building’s future users. The construction project has made significant strides this fall, and the foundation stone-laying ceremony marked both the project’s progress and the importance that the Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus will have for the local community.
Several speeches were delivered, including addresses from City Council Leader Christine Meyer and Culture Councilor Reidar Digranes. They highlighted Sentralbadet’s history and the building’s future significance for the city’s arts and culture initiatives. Representatives from the city and local politicians expressed their support and enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the joy of providing the city’s residents with a modern performing arts venue.
There is a lot of activity at the Sentralbadet site in fall 2024.
The highlight of the day was the cornerstone-laying itself, where several symbolic items were placed to represent both the project’s significance and future events. Among these items were:
Coins: These represent today’s economy and are a traditional part of cornerstone ceremonies.
Today’s newspaper: This gives future generations a glimpse into the day the cornerstone was laid.
A glass bottle with pool water: This unique symbolic item represents the pool water that has been part of Sentralbadet for many years and was collected on the final day of pool operations on October 23, 2014.
A book from Carte Blanche: This book, from Carte Blanche’s 25th anniversary, highlights important artistic contributions from the dance company and shows the project’s connection to the city’s rich cultural life.
BIT Teatergarasjen’s 40th anniversary book: This year, BIT celebrated 40 years of activity, and to mark the occasion, they created a publication that was placed in the cornerstone.
Contract and drawings: Copies of the contract and drawings for the new building that will become the new performing arts center.
The cornerstone was laid by City Council Leader Christine Meyer and Councilor Reidar Digranes on October 16, 2024.
