A dance to the voices of a choir. Undersang is a work by Harald Beharie in collaboration with Karoline Bakken Lund, Veronica Bruce and Christian Beharie, which takes shape as a performance ritual in the forest.

Undersang is a tapestry of opulent configurations soaked in a shimmer of queer ecologies and extravagant gestures. Here mythologies, national romantic ideals and science fiction converge, revealing a world of ancient powers.

Practical information

Travel

The performance will begin at 15:30 at the parking lot at the beginning of Kanadaskogen at Spelhaugen (next to Kanadaskogen Friluftslivsbarnehagen).

We encourage people coming from the city center to take bus 18 to its end stop ‘Barliveien’. From the busstop Barliveien, it is a 400 meter walk to the meeting place at the parking lot.

One member of staff wearing a yellow vest will take the bus departing from busstop Olav Kyrres gate platform G at 14:52. This is the latest departure that will arrive in time for the event.

There are limited free parking spots available for cars at the meeting place.

What to expect

At 15:30 we will begin with an announcement regarding practicalities before we collectively walk to the location in the forest. Half of the walk will be on a gravel road while the other half will be off the path. After arriving at the location in the forest, we will stay there for approximately 1 hour.

We will then leave the forest together the same way back to the meeting place where we began. We expect to be back at the meeting place at approximately 17:30. For those traveling by bus, we will help find the most suitable connection. You can combine Undersang with the Oktoberdans performances that start at 20:00 on both days.

Suitable clothing

This outdoors event will have an approximate duration of 2 hours. This includes two 30-minute walks and an hour of standing or sitting still. That is why we strongly recommend dressing appropriately. That means dressing warmly, wearing or bringing waterproof layers and waterproof and sturdy footwear. Even when it does not rain, the forest can be wet and slippery.

Accessibility

Given that parts of the walk into the forest are off the gravel path, this performance is not suitable for people in wheelchairs or for those who are not able to navigate hiking terrain (uneven and potentially slippery surfaces). Audiences are expected to be able to walk the approximate 30-minute walk back and forth. Measured from the meeting place at the parking lot, the elevation gain of the walk is under 100 meters. We will find a comfortable walking pace to accommodate all present. Upon arrival at the location in the forest, the audience is expected to either stand or sit without a backrest for the duration of the performance.
