Prøverommet returns to Nordnes Sjøbad in 2025, since the event in 2024 was so fun! There will be a site-specific sound performance, and this time it will be dark, so there is the extra possibility to play with video and light. Next the programme travels to Bergen Public Library, it’s been too long since Prøverommet was last there in 2017. Expect a collaboration with Mandagsfilmen at the library, plus rooms filled with different forms of art. The season would not be complete without Østre; the event is already full with very exciting projects. Then Prøverommet hikes into the city mountains for a collaboration with artist-run space Galleri Kronborg. Let’s hope for typical May weather! Before the summer break, the season ends with a classic Prøverommet at Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall, the programme’s longest standing host-collaborator.

Prøverommet is an autonomous program that has been running at BIT Teatergarasjen since 1998, and pops up at various venues throughout the seasons. It is a space to try out new artistic material in front of an audience, using any medium: dance, theatre, poetry, visual art, music… there have been almost 2500 projects presented so far!
Approximately half of the participants are reached through an ongoing open call. All people aged 18+ are welcome to apply, regardless of experience or education. If you would like to participate, send a short description of your project to program producer Laurie Lax on email: laurie@bit-teatergarasjen.no. Alternatively, a meeting or telephone conversation can be arranged. Remember that presenting experiments and works-in-progress is Prøverommet’s main purpose.

Usually several projects are presented on the same evening. For this reason, it is recommended that durational works are less than 20 minutes (unless you have a very good reason!). The format is flexible however; many Prøverommets have been combined with workshops, publication launches, activism and more! Prøverommet provides support for the presentation of projects, photo documentation and a small participation fee. There is no budget for travel. Letters of intent are possible to support participants’ own applications.

Prøverommet 2024 receives its own line of continuous support from Bergen kommune, from Vestland fylkeskommune between 2021-2024, and from the Kulturrådet between 2024-2025. As part of the BIT Teatergarasjen, Prøverommet is also supported by the Ministry of Culture and Equality.
